What CPM means
CPM stands for cost per mille, the price of 1,000 views. In advertising it is what a brand pays for 1,000 ad impressions. In clipping it is what a campaign pays a clipper for 1,000 views of a clip.
A clip's pay is its counted views divided by 1,000, times the CPM. At today's median of $1, a clip with 25,000 views is paid $25 before the minimum, the cap and the board's fee.
Rates right now
These are the rates of 519 live clipping campaigns that pay per view, one rate per campaign, its highest. One campaign often pays on several platforms, so the platform counts add up to more. 1 rate far above the market is left out.
| Platform | Campaigns | Median per 1K |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 465 | $1 |
| 417 | $1 | |
| YouTube | 326 | $1 |
| X | 83 | $1.10 |
| Board | Live | Rate per 1K | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Content Rewards | 486 | $1 | 10% |
| Clipster | 22 | $0.88 | 5% |
| Promote.fun | 12 | $1.88 | |
| Vyro | 3 | $1.50 | |
| Clipstake | 2 | $2.50 | None |
A board's fee comes out of the clipper's pay. Rate per 1K is the median of the board's live campaigns, or each rate when it has fewer than 3.
Headline versus real
The advertised CPM is the most a view can pay. What lands is lower, for reasons the rules spell out.
- Views under the minimum are paid nothing.
- Views past the cap per clip are paid nothing.
- The board's fee comes off the top.
- Rejected clips are paid nothing.
- Views counted after the budget is used are not paid.
- Views from outside a campaign's countries, or after its counting window, do not count.
On 27 Sep 2026, on 330 Content Rewards campaigns with over $100 spent and over 10K tracked views, budget spent per 1,000 tracked views had a median of $0.89, against a $1.00 median advertised rate. The median campaign realized 81% of its own advertised rate.
That gap is why the Alpha Score ranks by what a clip is likely to be paid, not by the rate. The Alpha Score method lists what it reads.
Other ways to pay
- Flat per post. A set amount for each approved post, whatever its views. 2 live clipping campaigns.
- CPM auction. A pool split by each clipper's share of the counted views, so the rate floats until the pool closes. 1 live clipping campaign.
Contests and CPM auctions have no fixed rate to price, so they show SCORING in place of an Alpha Score. Flat pay per post is scored once 20 or more such campaigns are live.
High rate traps
A high CPM is worth only what the views behind it are worth. Check three things before you chase one.
- The footage. Weak source material gets few views at any rate. A $1 rate on footage that travels beats $5 on footage nobody shares.
- The cap and the minimum. A high rate with a low cap per clip stops paying early, and a high minimum pays only the clips that clear it.
- The budget. A $50 rate on a $500 budget pays for 10,000 views in all, shared by every clipper on the campaign.
A rate far above the market with no posts behind it deserves a second look before you spend time on it. Rankings such as the highest paying clipping campaigns order by Alpha Score for this reason, never by the raw rate.
