What clipping is

Brands, creators and artists put a budget on a clipping platform and pay a rate for every 1,000 views that clips of their footage get. Clippers post on their own TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or X accounts, submit the links, and the platform pays for the views it counts, out of that budget. The clipping platforms below are the ones we read.

The live count is clipping campaigns. Payouts are the amounts the clipping platforms show on their campaigns. A platform that shows no payout field has an empty cell, which is not a missed payout. Every platform's record is on clipping payouts by platform.

Where pay falls short

The advertised rate is the most a view pays. On 639 clipping campaigns with over $100 spent, budgets spent a median $1.07 per 1,000 tracked views against a $1.30 median advertised rate.

  • A clip under a campaign's minimum views is paid nothing, and a cap ends pay on one clip past a set amount.
  • The brand or the clipping platform can reject a clip that breaks a rule, such as a missing tag or the wrong app.
  • Every clipper is paid from one budget, and pay stops once it is used.
  • Some clipping platforms take a share of CPM pay, and withdrawals can have a minimum.

What to check first

  • The clipping platform: its payout record, fee and minimum withdrawal, on its review page.
  • The campaign's rules: minimum views, caps, apps and the countries whose views count.
  • The budget left, and how long budgets of that size have lasted.
  • Anyone who asks for money to join a campaign, or promises a set income. Clipping platforms pay from the campaign's budget for counted views, and no platform can promise views.
