# Which apps allow paid political posts?

TikTok bans paid political posts by creators. Instagram and Facebook allow them in the US only when the paying campaign is authorized by Meta for political ads and the Paid partnership label is on. YouTube allows them in the US with the paid promotion box ticked, and hides them in the EU since 10 Oct 2025.

## Instagram and Facebook

- Officials, candidates, parties and political committees may not use branded content, with one exception. [Meta: branded content policies](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/221149188908254)
- In the US, the branded content tool may be used when the business partner is authorized by Meta to run ads about social issues, elections or politics. Outside the US it is not available for political entities. Whether a clip cut from campaign footage counts as helping create it is not settled. [Meta: branded content policies](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/221149188908254)
- A post boosted as a partnership ad needs the campaign and the creator to be authorized, and the ad carries a verified Paid for by disclaimer. ## YouTube rules

- Branded content follows Google's ad policies, where election and political content is a restricted category, and creators confirm that their partners are certified by Google where needed. [YouTube: branded content policies](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/17596007)
- Since 10 Oct 2025, political paid promotions are not shown to viewers in the EU. [YouTube: paid promotion](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/154235), [YouTube: branded content policies](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/17596007)
- Election ads bought from Google need US Election Ads verification, and Google adds the Paid for by line. [Google: political content policy](https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/6014595)
- Realistic AI made or altered content, such as a real person saying something they did not, must be disclosed in Studio. [YouTube: AI disclosure](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/14328491)

## X rules

- X's policy pages refused our reads on 24 Oct 2026, so we could not confirm X's current rules. Read its political content and paid partnerships policies before posting, and turn on its Paid Partnership disclosure. ## The law applies too

- An app's label does not replace a disclaimer the law asks for. In California the paid post wording goes in the post itself. [Cal. Gov. Code § 84513](https://www.fppc.ca.gov/siteassets/documents/legal_div/political_reform_act/2026/2026_Act_Final.pdf), [FPPC staff memo, June 2024](https://www.fppc.ca.gov/siteassets/documents/agendadocuments/general-items/2024/june/7.0-staff-memo.pdf)
